What it does
Acidic water is slowly corrosive. It eats copper plumbing, and the telltale sign is blue-green staining in sinks and tubs. It can also pull metals out of your own pipes and into the water.
A 12 x 52 inch tank holds natural calcite, which is crushed and screened calcium carbonate. As acidic water passes through, it dissolves a small amount of the calcite, which raises pH toward a less corrosive balance. It is recommended for inlet pH between 5.0 and 7.0. Nothing is injected and nothing is dosed. A BluePeak ProValve, rated at up to 28 GPM, backwashes the bed automatically to keep it loose and flowing. The calcite is consumed as it works, so it is topped up periodically.
Who it is for
Private well homes with low pH. Acidic groundwater is common across North Carolina, and this is usually the first thing to correct, because acidic water is hard on everything downstream of it, including the rest of the treatment system.
Two things worth knowing up front. Calcite adds calcium to the water, so hardness may rise as pH is corrected, and a softener downstream is often the right companion. And it does not remove iron, sulfur or chlorine. The water test tells us what else your well needs.

What does a calcite neutralizer do?
It corrects acidic water. Low pH is common in NC well water, and acidic water slowly eats copper plumbing — the telltale sign is blue-green staining in sinks and tubs. A calcite neutralizer runs your water through crushed calcium carbonate, which raises the pH back to neutral. If your well tests acidic (the neutralizer is rated for inlet pH 5.0 to 7.0), this usually has to be handled before anything else.
Do you work on well water?
Yes, and it's a meaningful share of what we do. Wells in Wake, Harnett, Chatham and Johnston counties commonly come back with iron, hydrogen sulfide, sediment or low pH. Those need genuinely different equipment than a city water home — which is why we test first instead of quoting off a price list.
What maintenance does the system need?
Whole-home tank systems are mostly self-maintaining — the valve regenerates or backwashes on its own, metered by your water use, and the media lasts years (calcite is the exception: it is consumed slowly and topped up). What needs regular attention: salt in the brine tank if you have a softener, sediment pre-filters, UV lamps annually, and RO membranes and filter stages on their cycle.
How long will the system last?
The tank and the valve’s ceramic disc are warrantied for as long as you own it. Media life depends on your water — carbon typically five to ten years, softener resin ten to fifteen. Well water with heavy iron loading is harder on media than city water.
