Genuinely hard well water
Unlike metro municipal supply, wells in this direction can be very hard. At 25 grains per gallon a softener stops being optional if you care about your fixtures and your water heater.
Fuquay-Varina is where metro Wake County starts turning into well country. The town has grown quickly on municipal supply, and the land around it has not stopped being rural.
Harnett County begins a short drive south, and Harnett wells are some of the hardest water we test anywhere in our footprint. Which side of that line your property sits on decides what you need.
On municipal supply, the issue is the chlorine that surface water treatment requires, and carbon filtration removes it.
On a private well, southern Wake and northern Harnett return the full Piedmont set: iron, hydrogen sulfide, sediment and low pH, frequently alongside genuinely hard water. We have tested wells in Harnett County and the surrounding areas at 25 grains per gallon and higher.
Two homes twenty miles apart here can need completely different systems. That is the whole reason we test before we quote.
We confirm your supplier and your source water during the free test rather than assuming it from your address.

Orange staining and a rotten-egg smell usually travel together on a well. The iron number from your test decides whether air injection handles it or whether peroxide injection is needed.
Acidic well water is common across North Carolina and the telltale sign is blue-green staining in sinks and tubs. If your well tests below about 6.5, pH usually has to be corrected before anything else.

Yes, and it's a meaningful share of what we do. Wells in Wake, Harnett, Chatham and Johnston counties commonly come back with iron, hydrogen sulfide, sediment or low pH. Those need genuinely different equipment than a city water home — which is why we test first instead of quoting off a price list.
It corrects acidic water. Low pH is common in NC well water, and acidic water slowly eats copper plumbing — the telltale sign is blue-green staining in sinks and tubs. A calcite neutralizer runs your water through crushed calcium carbonate, which raises the pH back to neutral. If your well tests acidic (the neutralizer is rated for inlet pH 5.0 to 7.0), this usually has to be handled before anything else.
For a typical Triangle household on a properly sized softener, figure on a bag every two to three months. It depends on your hardness level and how much water you use. If you’re going through salt much faster than that, something is set wrong.
It comes down to how much water you use and what is in it. Our Single Tank puts softening resin and catalytic carbon together in one mixed bed, which suits most city homes with up to three bathrooms, and the Single Tank XL is the same build sized for four or more. A dual tank gives each media its own tank — a softener tank plus a catalytic carbon tank on city water, or on a well, a softener tank plus an iron and sulfur tank. Continuous demand and harder problems push you toward dual. We size it off your test and your household, not your square footage.
Fifteen minutes at your kitchen sink, results while we are standing there, and no obligation. If your water is fine, we will tell you that.
