Angier sits in northern Harnett County, just over the line from Wake, and it is well country in every direction. The problem that announces itself first on a well here is usually color: orange rings in the toilet, rust streaks under the faucet, white shirts that come out of the wash looking tea-stained.
That is iron, and on Harnett wells it tends to come with hard water. The two together are the everyday Angier problem, and the useful thing about iron is that it is a number. Once we know the number, the choice of system is not a matter of opinion.
Iron dissolves into groundwater out of the rock and soil it passes through, and it is common across this part of North Carolina. Coming out of the well it can be perfectly clear. It turns orange after it meets air, which is why the stain shows up in the toilet tank and the washing machine rather than in the glass.
Iron is measured in parts per million. For our equipment the dividing line is 6 ppm. Below it, air injection does the work. Above it, peroxide injection is the right tool.
Hardness is measured separately, in grains per gallon, and we read both during the free in-home test. Branden, the owner, runs it at your kitchen sink and you see the results as they come up.

Yes, and it's a meaningful share of what we do. Wells in Wake, Harnett, Chatham and Johnston counties commonly come back with iron, hydrogen sulfide, sediment or low pH. Those need genuinely different equipment than a city water home — which is why we test first instead of quoting off a price list.
It comes down to how much water you use and what is in it. Our Single Tank puts softening resin and catalytic carbon together in one mixed bed, which suits most city homes with up to three bathrooms, and the Single Tank XL is the same build sized for four or more. A dual tank gives each media its own tank — a softener tank plus a catalytic carbon tank on city water, or on a well, a softener tank plus an iron and sulfur tank. Continuous demand and harder problems push you toward dual. We size it off your test and your household, not your square footage.
For a typical Triangle household on a properly sized softener, figure on a bag every two to three months. It depends on your hardness level and how much water you use. If you’re going through salt much faster than that, something is set wrong.
